I began following Modern Horrors on Instagram last year and subsequently, their website. I loved the informative articles and reviews, particularly their recommendations for all things horror/sci-fi/dark fantasy related. Mania Daniel, one of the contributing writers, and I struck up a friendship and she referred me to her editor, Jason Almenas, about being a contributing writer and offering up some insight and perspective as to what it is like to work in the film industry. Naturally I jumped at the chance to do so. I thought it would be fun to offer up some facts about what goes on behind the cameras to you, the reader, on subjects that may be a little foreign to you in regards to how productions work and especially why being a ‘team player’ is so crucial to the show’s success.

Growing up, I was heavily into horror movies, Goosebumps books, metal music, skateboarding, and all things Halloween. I slowly became more and more intrigued and obsessed with the mind bending artwork that accompanied all of it. After years of doodling little monsters and copying Pushead skulls in my notebook, I decided to post a few sketches on Myspace (lol) - And soon after, I was contacted by a local band who were in need of T-shirt designs. So I buckled down, stayed up until sunrise, and taught myself some basic Photoshop skills and created my first ever clothing designs. From there, what was once a hobby, snowballed into a full-time job designing bold and colorful art for t-shirts, cd packaging, posters, and other merchandise for local and internationally recognized metal bands. In May of 2012, after years of designing freelance, I decided to change paths and with the help of my wife, and Co-Founder Ricki Crawford, take my art and release it as t-shirts and prints under the name CAVITYCOLORS. (A name coined from the idea of vibrant colors drawing you in to view something that may be horrific or unsettling in subject matter)

The foulest stench is in the air, the funk of forty years since the universally proclaimed “King of Pop” released the infamous music video “Thriller”, a badass tune on his 1982 album of the same name, nationally to audiences everywhere, smells as fresh as it did since we first saw zombies dance across TV screens in 1983.
